According the the update notes, the new Elona treasure description comes under "Other Updates" along with such new things as Foreign land characters getting level 15 heroes, etc. It is not listed as part of the Wintersday festival.

The strong implication is that the treasures are permanent - not holiday specific. Well, permanent until you open them, that is. They are one shot deals, after all.

Guild Wiki says the opposite. It says they are only temporary gifts and will be gone with the end of the event. Which is it?

My ranger has gone thru and picked up all her treasures. I got 15^50 mods, a 20/20 sundering mod, loads of plat - really nice stuff! If this is truely temporary, I'd like to know. I'm sorry, but to me, snowball fight titles and hats are secondary to great gear. I'll do the snowball fights if I can be sure the treasures will still be there after Jan. 1.

Does anyone know for sure?

Could someone kindly link to Gaile's comment that the treasures are temporary? I read through the Dev Tracker threads again and didn't see anything about it.

I realize not everything she says gets posted there as she often makes in-game comments.

That's a real shame, but if you think about it - it could actually be better, if it means they'll return, reset for fresh plundering, next year.

Probably the only time where not having multiple PVE characters isn't a benefit. I recently hit up all these spots and I've got nothing but rubies, plat, and golds from them. Definitely worthwhile to get them all as soon as you can on as many characters as you have before they're gone. Glad they put this in, for once I felt like the game gave out decent rewards. Usually it's like 50 GP and 1000 xp for doing a quest whoo...

wish they would leave them. I mean you can only use them once per character so its not like there would be chest runners.....

so far I have only 1 character thru the game, did the domain of pain one today.....that was tough!

AND

so far I have been getting mostly scythes (70%), inspiration staves (20%), and a few other weapons of non-max variety (got a dragon horn bow today and a nice paragon shield).....but no gems. Would be nice to get a gem since they are worth lots more than all the gold items I have gotten put together. And I still want to get some vabbi armor for my ele.....though she was able to finish off her 15k sunspear set with the plat I have gotten so far. (still need more gems).

Very happy with this part of the wintersday celebrations, just wish the chests were a bit more random on the drops..........

I have a lot of PvE characters, but very few of them are past the Sunspear Sanctuary. I'll gather what chests I can. I still think it was a great idea on Anet's part, giving us something a little extra when they didn't have to.

I certainly could see some people actually restarting a character slot repeatedly to abuse the free chest...after all there is at least one on beginners island.

Yeah I our voices get noticed as it seems to be popular and well recieved and so far I have noticed or figured any way for it to be abused.. at least not anymore than anything else in the game.

I say keep it... adds a little more excitment to the exploring aspect.

Yesterday, I collected all the high-end rewards on two characters, redeemed some outstanding debts, sold off half of the items my storage, and gave the other half of it way to low level characters.

I managed to net 100k.

The chests are quite profitable. You will easily get 20k+ for claiming all the chests (in addition to a gold item or gem, Istan chests give 500g, Kourna chests give about 1k, Vabbi about 2k, and the endgame chests give about 3k-4k). I just got my FoW for my Mesmer and spent all my gold on keys during the double rare from chests weekend, so I had zero gold, but now I have over 50k for doing these chests runs with two characters, not to mention plenty of weapons for my heroes.

It's too bad that people who miss out on this event would miss out on so much.
